If I say that today there is a treasure for those who want to see history closely or are searching or doing deep research on historical things, then it will not be wrong to say. Let me tell you about this place based on my own experience.
Historical Significance
I love traveling and am excited for new ones that help me to connect with the past and actual theories and activities of existence that I want to explore. Bihar is a state of rich culture, tradition, languages, food, and many historical activities and remains. The same Bihar is seen by many people today from many perspectives, whether right or wrong, which once had great kings like Chandragupta, Ashoka, and many more. This is the same place called India Vishwa Guru because the world’s first world-class education place Nalanda University, is also in Bihar, and a famous educational institute Vikramshila Maha Vihar is also here. Bihar is not a state, it is a mixture of several cultures that make us very proud to present as well as I want to.

A Structure in Kumhrar Park |
I will tell
you about a historic property in Bihar, Kumhrar Park, which was once an assembly
hall during the period of the great emperors Chandragupta Maurya and Ashoka.
Today, there are many places to visit in Patna, Bihar, which you can explore, but
there is such a wonderful place that is very important to know while
understanding its history; this place is one of them. When I talk about its
history, we come across the time around the 6th century BC, the period of the Gupta, Maurya, Shishunag, Nanda, etc.
Today’s
Bihar was called patliputra in ancient times. it had other names like
patligram, kusumpur, Pushpapur, kusumdhwaj, etc. When the king of Magadha,
Azadshatru, was improving his kingdom and government system, at the same time,
he also got a fort constructed here for the development of his kingdom. This place
is also called the heart of Magadha. After the rule of Azadshatru came to an
end, Udayin, who was his son and became the next emperor of the Magadha,
keeping in view his political and strategic condition, got the patliputra done
from the capital of Magadha. After that, many rulers kept patliputra as a
capital during their rule. During the Ashoka period, there was a Buddhist
Congregation which seems to have taken place at this place from the point of view
of some historians.
This place
gives us a chance to get acquainted with the history of Bihar in detail. At
that time, all the foreigners who came to India mentioned Kumhrar or
patliputra very well in their books. When we read the book of Megasthenes,
namely Indica, it is mentioned that Patliputra is a beautiful city surrounded
by a wooden pillar that protects it, and many other things are also
mentioned. It is such an old place that nobody would have come to know about it
suddenly, you are right. Some evidence of the discovery of this place
was seen for the first time in 1895 when W C Peppe took out some pieces of
bricks and soil pots from this place and did detailed research on it. After
that, in the years between 1912 and 1915, the first proper excavation was
started by the Archaeological Survey of India under the leadership of Dr. D.B.
Spooner. After this, between 1951 and 1955, another excavation was carried out
by A. S. Altekar, who was the head of the history department at Patna University.
During all these excavations, many excavated objects and artefacts were found,
even today, by going to the Kumhrar Park's Museum, where all artefacts have
been maintained.
Major Findings:
In the
excavation from 1895 to 1955, many aspects of ancient modern patliputra town
were found that helped us to connect and properly inform the facts about that
time. Among the things found during the excavations was an 80-pillar hall
which was made of wood and stood on stone; seeing this, it was believed that this
could be the assembly of Maurya times, where administrative activities would
have happened.

Apart from
that, some statues and utensils of terracotta have been found that belong to
the time of the Shunga and Gupta times, and from this, we get to see the signs of
religious and daily life. A Havankund was also seen, which belongs to the Maurya
period, and this shows the tradition of Puja and Yagya. The remains of a Buddhist Vihar
were also found, which are connected to the Gupta period and it is known that at
that time Buddhism must have influenced these people. Apart from this, ancient
wells and drains have also been discovered that all connect to the periods that
existed at that time in patliputra, which it is known what kind of lifestyle
and towns they had.
During this
excavation, one structure was found that looked like a well-structured room;
its length was around 10 to 21 feet, and its width was 10 feet. This place was
built very well, and it was a hospital run by the famous doctor of the Gupta
period, “Dhanvantre.” It was identified by a terracotta stone inscription found
here, on which was written the name “Arogya Vihar” or “Hospital
cum Monastery.” Near this place, a bodhi tree is also seen and in its
lower part, “Shri Arogya Vihar Bhikshu Samasya” is written in Gupta or
Brahmi script. Here, one more piece of red utensil is seen in which
“Dhanvantre” is written.
This city
witnessed the rule of many emperors, but it could not live in this way for
long. In the beginning, A Chinese traveller, Huentswang, came to India on a
pilgrimage, but by then most of the city had become a ruin.

After being
a capital for a long time, it lost its glory but remained a centre of
importance forever. Moreover, a museum is also located in this park where you
can explore pots, coins, terracotta statues, and many more that will help to
gain information and details about the history of the Maurya, Gupta, and all the
dynasties that had ruled here at that time. Apart from this, a significant and
true history is here to describe the value of its rich and realistic formation
of assembly practices, medication practices, Buddhism practices, and so on.
Conclusion
The article
describes the real value of historical sites, connecting the present to the
past with the ruins. I must recommend to all of you who are reading this
article, to go to Patna and explore Kumhrar Park, you will get a new experience
and learn more historical aspects based on the Patna location.
